VALDOSTA — Dick’s Wings and Grill started in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1994, and now it’s come to Valdosta.
The Valdosta location marks a new phase for the company.
While there has been a Dick’s Wings and Grill location in Waycross for 10 years, the overwhelming majority of the company’s restaurants are in Florida, with 16 locations in the Jacksonville area.
“They’re looking to venture up and get into the Georgia market,” said Chris Tibbetts, general manager for the Valdosta location.
Along with Valdosta, Dick’s Wings plans on opening a Tifton location in the next couple of months, and possibly a Macon location.
It was a quick four weeks from signing for the Valdosta location and opening the doors.
Several interior walls were knocked down to open the dining rooms, some walls were repainted yellow or orange and games were added for kids.
Chicken wings have only grown in popularity throughout recent years, with 1.25 billion wings projected to have been eaten on Superbowl Sunday this year, according to the National Wing Council’s 2015 Wing Report released in January.
“When people think wings, they think hot and spicy,” said Tibbetts. “We can do hot and spicy, but it’s all about the flavors.”
